Talking the Talk: Parent Seminar

Talking the Talk: A Must-Attend Parent Seminar on Safety, Puberty, Consent and Relationships

Peninsula Grammar invites parents and carers across our community to an event that addresses some of today’s most pressing parenting challenges: guiding children and teens through the complexities of growing up safely, respectfully, and well-informed.

“Talking the Talk: Protective Safety, Puberty, Consent & Respectful Relationships for Parents” is designed for parents of children aged 5 to 17 years and will be presented by respected educator Vanessa Hamilton on Wednesday 27 August from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the H.A. Macdonald Pavilion, Peninsula Grammar.

Hosted in an era where children and families face unprecedented questions about wellbeing, safety and developing healthy relationships, this session will provide much-needed clarity for parents keen to nurture open and confident conversations at home.

With expertise as a Registered Nurse, sexual and reproductive health educator, multi-award-winning author, and parent of three, Vanessa Hamilton brings a wealth of knowledge to support every family.

Open to the wider parent and carer community, this adults-only seminar will explore how to speak with children and teens about:

  • Body and protective safety, both in-person and online
  • Puberty, reproduction, and what to expect as children grow
  • Healthy and respectful relationships, consent for all ages, and strategies for inclusion and diversity
  • Prevention of gender-based violence

Attendees will gain practical tools, up-to-date information, and increased confidence for approaching topics that can often feel daunting. Vanessa’s celebrated presentation style is engaging, clear, and laced with humour to ease the pressure of sensitive discussions. Parents have described her sessions as “brilliant”, “clear” and “confidence-building”, with one remarking, “I feel a lot more confident talking to my kids now…I loved the phrase ‘be the askable and tellable adult.”

This event also underscores Peninsula Grammar’s unwavering commitment to student wellbeing, holistic education, and a safe, inclusive environment. Peninsula Grammar strongly supports informed, age-appropriate conversations about sexuality and safety as vital to fostering resilient, respectful, and empowered young people.

We encourage all parents and carers, whether your child is in Prep or Year 12, to take part in this valuable opportunity. Together, we can ensure our children are prepared for life’s challenges with confidence and care.
