Peninsula Grammar’s Grand Music Showcase: Celebrating 20 Years of Musical Excellence
Peninsula Grammar’s Grand Music Showcase returns to the Frankston Arts Centre this August with two vibrant concerts that highlight the remarkable depth and spirit of the School’s music program. Spanning more than two decades, the Grand Music Showcase has become a cornerstone event in the Peninsula Grammar calendar, celebrating the dedication, talent, and community that defines the school’s musical life.
On Thursday 28 August, audiences are invited to experience the musical achievements of students from Years 3 to 12 in two performances: the Junior and Middle School Showcase at 6:00 PM, followed by the Senior Showcase at 8:00 PM. Each concert will present music from the full range of Peninsula Grammar’s ensembles, currently 27 in total, including percussion ensembles, string groups, choirs, concert bands, symphony orchestra, stage band, contemporary rock and pop groups, and jazz combos. These ensembles rehearse weekly throughout the year, guided by passionate staff determined to foster excellence across classical, jazz and contemporary genres.
This year’s repertoire promises excitement and diversity, with selected highlights including scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, epic moments from Lord of the Rings, tunes by Miles Davis, and a showstopping medley from the award-winning La La Land, performed by choir and orchestra together. Student music leaders will also share their personal reflections, connecting the audience with what music has meant on their individual journeys.
At the heart of Peninsula Grammar’s thriving music department is Dr. Richard Vaudrey, Head of Studio and Ensemble Music. An accomplished cellist, composer and educator, Dr. Vaudrey has contributed richly to Australia’s music landscape, performing internationally and mentoring young musicians through workshops, masterclasses, and his extensive work at Peninsula Grammar. His vision and expertise have helped mould a program that nurtures both technical skill and creative expression, ensuring that every student has an opportunity to participate and grow.
The Grand Music Showcase has evolved since the first performance in 2002, becoming a tradition that embodies Peninsula Grammar’s commitment to the arts, educational excellence, and vibrant community life.
Peninsula Grammar warmly invites parents, families and music lovers across the Mornington Peninsula to join this special celebration.
