Counselling

Guidance, Care and Connection

At Peninsula Grammar we have an experienced team of counsellors who work on site each day. Our team work one-on-one with students and families to provide support for a range of issues, including those pertaining to home and school.

We also have a proactive approach to Wellbeing which includes face to face delivery of age-appropriate programs in classrooms by members of our counselling team.

Our Team

Each member of our counselling team are both qualified and experienced in working with children and young people.

In the counselling team, each counsellor works with students therapeutically in their own way, using a variety of tools, strategies and therapeutic practices that inform their work. Our counsellors work with young people and their families based on their professional training, alignment with theories, and their own personal style. Different students may identify more easily with some styles or genders, and it is important that they have a choice about who they see or who they feel best suits them. This needs to be negotiated within the team, respectfully understanding that it is about personal connections or preferences, not professionalism or competence.

Our counselling team has a high respect for children and young people’s expertise in their own lives and knows that they are all a part of an important family system.

When we see students one-on-one, we take into consideration the need to involve parents if we have concerns for their wellbeing, but also allow students to use the space to explore issues around conflict, stress, identity and managing strong emotions in a safe and confidential space. Written consent from parents to see any student under Year 10 is required.

We also offer short term support and advice to parents and are always happy to meet with them to discuss their concerns.
