Peninsula Grammar Launches Music Academy for Aspiring Young Musicians

Peninsula Grammar will launch a new Music Academy in 2027, providing talented and committed young musicians with a specialist pathway that combines musical excellence with a well-rounded school experience.

Available to students entering Years 7 and 8 in 2027, the Academy is designed for those seeking greater musical challenge, more time to develop their skills and regular opportunities to perform. The program will expand progressively to include Year 9 students in 2028 and Year 10 students in 2029, with participants then able to continue their musical studies through VCE Music Performance in Years 11 and 12.

Designed to support both musical excellence and personal growth, the Music Academy enables students to deepen their musicianship while continuing to benefit from the breadth of opportunities and strong sense of community that define life at Peninsula Grammar.

Head of Ensemble and Music Studio Dr Richard Vaudrey said the Academy has been designed to develop capable, confident musicians through a rich and purposeful learning experience.

“The Music Academy will provide students with the time, guidance and opportunities needed to accelerate their musical growth while enjoying all the benefits of a Peninsula Grammar education,” he said.

“Performance sits at the heart of learning. Students will be challenged to refine their craft, build confidence on stage and develop the habits that support long-term success.”

Music Academy students will participate in a comprehensive program that includes individual specialist tuition, dedicated Music Academy classes, ensemble rehearsals, instrument-specific studio classes, masterclasses with visiting artists and mentoring from industry professionals.

Performance will be a central feature of Academy life. Every student will perform as a soloist at least once each term, alongside regular appearances in orchestras, bands, choirs, chamber ensembles and community performances. Students will also have opportunities to represent Peninsula Grammar at regional events and competitions, building valuable experience and confidence in front of an audience.

The Academy is aimed at students who have demonstrated a sustained interest in music, have completed at least two years of formal study and are ready to embrace greater challenge. Selection will consider musical potential, commitment and readiness alongside current proficiency.

Students will learn from Peninsula Grammar’s experienced music faculty, which includes active performers, conductors, composers and educators. Partnerships with visiting artists, professional ensembles and leading tertiary music institutions will further connect students with the wider world of music and performance.
