In Memoriam – Shane Downie

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our esteemed colleague, Shane Downie, who commenced at Peninsula Grammar in 2008 and retired at the end of 2024.

Shane was an exceptional educator whose leadership, compassion, and dedication touched the lives of so many within our community. Beginning as a Commerce Teacher, Shane quickly established himself as a respected and trusted member of staff. His commitment to his students and colleagues saw him take on a number of key roles, including Head of Year 12, Celebration Coordinator, Head of Commerce, and Mentor for our Malaysian School.

Shane will be remembered for his warmth, humour, and unwavering support of others. He guided students with wisdom and care, and inspired those around him through his calm presence and genuine kindness. His contribution to the life of the School was profound, and his legacy will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Shane’s connection to Peninsula Grammar extended beyond his professional life, as a proud father to Oakley, who graduated in 2018.

As we mourn Shane’s passing, we give thanks for his years of service, his friendship, and the many ways he enriched our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Shane’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
