The S.J. Brennan Sports Field Opening
On 8 May, Peninsula Grammar proudly celebrated the official opening of the S.J. Brennan Sports Field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This moment marked the realisation of a long-held vision to provide students with world-class facilities that inspire athletic excellence and foster community connection.
The field, once known as the North Oval, has undergone significant transformation over the years. Renamed the Brennan Oval in 2020 to honour Stephen Brennan, a founding student in 1961 and Director of Sport from 1991 to 2018, it now bears the name of a man whose six-decade association with Peninsula Grammar helped shape its proud sporting tradition. His dedication to nurturing talent and expanding sports programs is unmatched, and his legacy stands as a testament to hard work, perseverance, and a love for sport. The vision for this state-of-the-art facility came to fruition in 2024 and was officially unveiled in the presence of Mr. Brennan and former Principal Mr. Stuart Johnston, both of whom played pivotal roles in its inception.
The new field features a six-lane athletics track built to World Athletics standards, including four jump pits, two high jump mats and a shotput area. It accommodates a full range of events such as the 100m, 110m hurdles, 4 x 100m relay and 400m. At its centre lies a FIFA-certified soccer field capable of hosting both games and training sessions.
The S.J. Brennan Sports Field now stands as a hub for training, competitions, and camaraderie. Its design reflects Peninsula Grammar’s unwavering dedication to health, wellness, and sportsmanship.
The ceremony also acknowledged the Wallace family’s generational contributions, symbolised by the PJ Wallace Champion House Bowl, which remains embedded in our School’s history.
The event concluded with the school’s first House Athletics carnival on the new field, a fitting tribute to its purpose. The S.J. Brennan Sports Field is more than just a facility, it is a beacon of opportunity, bringing the Peninsula Grammar community together to celebrate teamwork, determination, and the enduring spirit of sport.
