On the back of finishing 3rd in the home and away season the senior Pirate team has made history yet again by winning their way into the 2016 Grand Final and gaining promotion to the highest level of the VAFA the club has ever been, B grade! Unfortunately on the day Mazenod Old Collegians were too strong for our valiant, young Pirate outfit. But a huge congratulations must go to the boys for a terrific season which saw some of the most exciting and skillful football we have ever been a part of. The club is extremely proud of the effort and the sacrifice that all of the players and coaches have put into this season. To cap off what was a successful season for the whole club, the Under 19’s and Reserves teams both missed out on playing finals for the second straight year by only 2 points each! Proving that our depth, youth and culture of the club is as strong as ever. We had 5 players named in the Premier C Team of the Year for the seniors. Tom Feldgen in the back pocket, Brad Schuurman at full back, Nick Fisher in the ruck, Stefan Barbour in the forward pocket and James Moignard on the bench. Congratulations must go to all of these boys on outstanding individual seasons. Congratulations must also go to club legend Shaun Payze who played his 350th senior game of football for the club this season. 350 games of football is an amazing feat but for someone to play 350 seniors games and to still be playing at the level Shaun does is incredible. 2017 is shaping to be the biggest yet at the POBFC. With Premier B grade being an extremely high level of football, the club is determined to rise to the exciting challenge that awaits us, both on and off the field. The committee is stronger than it has ever been, and on the back of some quality young players on the park (many being past students of The Peninsula School) we look forward to working hard together over the summer months to push towards A Grade. On behalf of the POBFC Committee we extend an open invitation to past and current students and their families to come down to the Harry McDonald Oval on Saturdays in season 2017 to be a part of the POBFC family. We would also like to thank The Peninsula School for their ongoing support, which is a critical part of the success the club is currently enjoying. I personally encourage anyone who is interested in playing football past their schooling career to come on down to join the POBFC. It is a terrific club, and a second home to so many. The Pirates pride themselves on welcoming everyone with open arms. Stuart Grigg Senior Captain Thank You to our 2016 POBFC sponsors. Your support drives our great club forward!
