The Houses were given the brief that they had to create a performance using a particular movie genre and include a nominated lead character. The lead character also had to be in the midst of choosing a new career path. Houses were randomly allocated the movie genre and the lead character. They had 5 rehearsal sessions and were required to write their own script and choose two songs to perform on which they were judged. Each play was only allowed to run for 6 to 8 minutes with severe penalties applied for being under or over time. Each performance was judged on the singing performance, the appropriateness and the creativity of the music performance as well as the standard of the live music accompaniment, the overall creativity of the story and the performance, the inclusion of dance into the performance, the staging of the play with regard to costumes, fluency, props etc and that important X factor or entertainment value.
